![]() Echo currently has the lowest pick rate in Overwatch 2, and though players who are used to her kit can do quite a bit of damage on the flying DPS hero, she's pretty unapproachable for the most part. Sojourn finally received a nerf that barely had any effect at all she still dominates games, especially in lower ranks. It took ages for Genji and Zarya nerfs to come through, even after they dominated the game for a couple of seasons. That means the cooldown can no longer be reset early, even if you aren't using the full duration of Guardian Angel's movement - and, while that might not seem like much when the ability's cooldown is being reverted to 1.5 seconds, those milliseconds can quite literally be the difference between a win and a loss.Īll of these changes and reversions are particularly rough considering all the other characters who could use some love (or a lot less love). Beginning in Season 4, Mercy's Jump and Crouch active abilities can no longer be used to interrupt Guardian Angel's movement manually. They made it harder for higher-elo Mercy players to use her efficiently, lowering how effective she can be at upper tier ranks without really addressing her ability to upend lower-rank or Quickplay games.Īnd the mobility changes aren't being entirely reverted, either. If anything, by removing some of Mercy's more complicated mobility maneuvers (ones that, for the most part, only people who have had time and experience with the hero can utilize to their fullest extent), the game developers inadvertently lowered the skill ceiling even further on an already relatively simple character. On the back end, they also made it a lot more difficult to control her movement properly while using in the ability now, it's much more difficult to slingshot across the map or make your movements unpredictable to avoid that Widow who's been making your life hell. The developers also increased the cooldown on Mercy's mobility-based Guardian Angel ability, and therein lies the real issue. ![]() RELATED: Overwatch 2's Kiriko Deserves Way More Backstory That doesn't address the core of the issue. Nothing at all was done to reduce her damage-boosting secondary fire - which means that her most basic (and, to some, overpowered) parts of her kit are still just as effective as they were before. They instituted a slight nerf to Mercy's healing and removed her regenerative passive, replacing it with one that regens her own health based on the amount she healed her teammates. My real issue is that the nerfs don't actually help the health of the game or of the support roster in general. I'm glad that they're mostly being reverted for Season 4, but after this, I pray that they just leave her alone. For the health of the roster, nerfing her a little further was probably the right move (even if it did make me cry a little bit).īut Overwatch 2's Season 3 nerfs to Mercy had far from the same effect. Even two rezzes can majorly shift the trajectory of the game, though, and that made Mercy a must-play hero for a very long time. I actually really liked this change - you could revive a teammate right before popping ult and then again right after to maximize her potential. It was a gut-wrenching feeling (or, if you were the Mercy, an incredible one).įor her first major rework, Mercy was given her current Valkyrie ult and two charges max for her rez. Imagine blowing your entire team's ult charge on a massive fight, just to realize that you all missed the Mercy in the heat of battle. She could single-handedly change the tide of the game and, admittedly, that was just a bit too overpowered one well-timed ult could undo an entire team fight, rendering just about everything else inconsequential. I still remember when Mercy's ult was a mass rez that applied to as many teammates as she could fit in a circle around her. Most of the major changes happened in the original Overwatch. I think I speak for all Mercy mains when we say we're tired, and doubly so when I say we wish some of the balance efforts were redirected somewhere else. Mercy has been through so many iterations by now, it's hard to keep track of them all - even as someone who's played her all the way through. Okay, this might actually be a little biased because I'm a Mercy main, but still, I wish Blizzard would just stop messing with the classics.
